1. Borobudur Temple

Built by the Sailendra dynasty between AD 780 and 840, Borobudur Temple is the largest Buddhist monument in the world. Designed as a spiritual sanctuary, the temple symbolizes the path to enlightenment, guiding visitors from the earthly realm to Nirvana through its intricate carvings and tiered structure.

Borobudur was rediscovered in 1814 by the British governor Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles. By 1835, the entire temple complex had been fully revealed, restoring its grandeur as one of the most significant cultural and religious landmarks in Indonesia.

2. Pawon & Mendut Temples

Restoration efforts in the early 20th century revealed that Pawon and Mendut Temples are precisely aligned with Borobudur, suggesting a deep spiritual connection among them.

Pawon Temple (1.15 km from Borobudur) is believed to be a preparatory site for Buddhist pilgrims before reaching Borobudur.
Mendut Temple (3 km from Borobudur) houses a magnificent Buddha statue and is still used for Buddhist rituals and ceremonies.
Although the exact religious practices connecting these temples remain a mystery, they continue to be sacred sites of spiritual devotion and historical significance.

Route: Hotel in Yogyakarta – Borobudur Temple – Sunset at Sinar Hill – Hotel in Yogyakarta

Schedule:

10:00 AM – Pick-up from your hotel in Yogyakarta
11:30 AM – Arrive at Borobudur Temple
12:00 PM – Guided Tour to the Top of Borobudur Temple and Main Stupa (Join a Group of Fellow Explorers)
2:00 PM – Lunch at a local restaurant (at your own expense)
3:30 PM – Transfer to Sinar Hill
4:30 PM – Enjoy a breathtaking sunset at Sinar Hill
6:00 PM – Depart for Yogyakarta
