Ijen Crater – The Blue Fire Wonder of East Java

Ijen Crater is located within the Ijen Plateau, straddling Banyuwangi and Bondowoso Regencies, in East Java, Indonesia.

Distance from Banyuwangi City: approximately 40 kilometers (1.5–2 hours by car)
Distance from Bondowoso Town: around 70 kilometers (2–2.5 hours by car)

The main entrance for most visitors is through Paltuding Base Camp, which serves as the starting point for the hike to the crater.

Access and Trekking Route

From Banyuwangi, travelers usually depart around midnight to reach Paltuding by 1:00–1:30 AM and begin the hike at 2:00 AM, arriving at the crater rim before sunrise.

The hike is about 3 kilometers (1.5–2 hours) on a moderate uphill trail. The path is well-marked and suitable for most travelers with average fitness. Local guides and porters are available at Paltuding to assist or provide information about the route and safety.
