Baleim Valley located in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Province. Every year the Baliem Valley Cultural Festival will be held. Almost every year the festival takes place on the 4th to the 8th of August. In 2020, a unique annual festival will be centered in Walesi District, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Province.

 

This is an occasion when all the diverse tribes from the highlands Wamena and the Baliem Valley such as Dani, Lani, and Yali gather together to put together their annual baleim valley festival. At the festival will be displayed a lot played by a variety of larger tribes offering comparison between tribes and families and several tribes in Baliem and Wamena.

 

This tribal war simulation will be held for two days consisting of 26 groups consisting of 30-50 fighters. This battle scene is accompanied by traditional Papuan music Pikon. Pikon is a musical instrument made from bark that produces sound when blown. The sound created creates supportive music. Not many people can play this instrument because it requires special expertise. You will see many interesting performances at the 2020 Bali Valley Festival.

 

Organized by Jayawijaya Regency, the Baliem Valley Cultural Festival introduces and preserves the values and culture of the traditional Baliem Valley. The Baliem Festival will be perfected by a variety of interesting arts and cultural performances, including traditional Papuan dances, pig racing, Puradan Rattan Tombak Throw, Sikoko Spear play, traditional Papuan music playing, and many more. Visitors can also experience indigenous Papuans by wearing traditional Koteka costumes and blackening the skin so they can also be part of the celebration of the Baliem Valley Cultural Festival from year to year.
